Most Paulistanos – as the people in São Paulo are often called – are known to be sports enthusiasts. Proof of this is the many famous sports personalities who came from this large Brazilian city. Among the well-accepted and participated sports in Sampa are football and race car.
Football
Like the rest of the country, football is also city’s most popular sport. There are in fact four major teams, namely, the Sport Club Corinthians Paulista or simply the Corinthians, the Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras also called the Palmeiras, the São Paulo Futebol Clube (São Paulo Football Club), and the Associação Portuguesa de Desportos which is simply known as the Lusa or Portuguesa; and two small clubs Clube Atlético Juventus or Juventus and the Nacional Atlético Clube or the Nacional.
Race Car
Many of São Paulo’s Formula One race car drivers have already made a mark in the international circuit. This can also be greatly attributed to the city’s modern race car facilities that serve not just a practice ground but a host to several international race car events.
Aside from football and race car, basketball is another popular sport in the city. It also provides option to enjoy surfing, golfing, canoeing, trekking, and diving.
