The city has is also home to a lot of notable people. There are several athletes that are from Recife. Juninho Pernambucano is one of these. Known as the The Little King of São Januário or The Little King of the Hill, the football player is currently part of the Al-Gharafa, playing is midfielder. In the 40 games that he played for the Brazilian national team, he was able to score six goals.

 

Recife is also home to a lot of artists, and Francisco Brennand is among the most notable artist from the city. A renowned Brazilian sculptor, he is greatly known for his works in ceramic sculpture. He has held various exhibits all over Brazil and his works can be seen in the Atlantic Forest reservation in the borough of Varzea and in the Sculpture Park found in Recife Antigo.

 

Other notable people that are from Recife are: Gilberto Freyre, writer; composers Antônio Maria, Chico Science, and Alceu Valença; ice hockey professional Robyn Regehr; mixed martial artists Sidney Silva and Junior Assunção; and Emanuela de Paula, international model.
