Although Florianopolis already offers a handful of attractions and activities to its tourists, going beyond its borders may not be a bad at all as there are other interesting places to see and experience in its neighboring cities.
Among these places that you can include in your itinerary are Sao Joaquim, Balneário Camboriú, and Laguna.
Sao Joaquim, which located on the southwest part of Florianopolis, is known to be Brazil’s coldest city, averaging at -10°C in temperature. Snowfall here occurs with a high frequency. Thus, those who are looking for snow-related activities or are just curious to see snow in Brazil, Sao Joaquim is of the places to be.
A beach resort and a city, Balneário Camboriú, on the other hand, is famous for its cable car that links Laranjeiras and Balneário Camboriú – two of the state’s main beaches. Located 80 kilometers from the north of Florianopolis, the town has over 94,000 inhabitants but this could swell up to 700,000 during summer.
Translated in the Amerindian language, the city means, “Golfo do Mar (Sea Gulf)”. One of the main attractions in Balneário Camboriú is the statue called Cristo Luz which is similar to that of Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer. The one in the city, however, shows Jesus carrying on his shoulder a broad-brimmed hat which contains a spotlight shining out to the sea. Its light at night changes its color from time to time. At 33 meters in height, this monument located on Morro da Cruz’s top is Brazil’s second largest monument; next to Rio’s.
Another thing that tourists can look forward in the city is the sight of paragliders flying along the beach.
Included in the interesting places to visit near Florianopolis is the city of Laguna which is just 120 kilometers away from the city. With a population of 48,956, the city which was founded in 1676 by Sao Vicente’s local people, boasts of its carnivals that are as lively and colorful as there is in most cities in the country. It is also among the reasons why many are captivated to visit the city.
There may already be a lot of sights, attractions, and activities (even during the night) that you can include in your itinerary while in Florianopolis, but trying to see what’s beyond it through its neighboring cities can you truly appreciate the beauty and wonder there is in the state of Santa Catarina, and in Brazil as well.
