Brazil is widely known by the Amazon Rainforest or its coast. However, the generous Brazilian nature has other spots to offer to people looking for adventure or wild places to explore. One of them is Chapada Diamantina, a national park located in the state of Bahia. It is a fantastic place with strange rock formations, crossed by caves with surprising underground rivers and lakes and a huge variety of fauna and flora that. It was discovered in the 19th century by two German prospectors and converted into a national park in 1985 in response to the growing ecotourism in Brazil.
It is located about 400 km away from Salvador and can be reached by road or airport. With an average temperature of 23ºC, it covers 38.000 sq. Km of hilly land. The park itself and surrounding cities like Lençóis, AndaraÃ, Mucugê or Palmeiras, offer many outdoor activities such as trekking, climbing, scuba diving or horse riding.
